Exactly a few months after the warranty expired, my Philips LCD TV (42PFL7862D/10) broke down. No image, but sound was OK. This is now the 3rd Philips TV that breaks down just after the warranty expired. I started looking for the problem on the internet and found a thread confirming a typical weakness of the LCD and explaining the problem fix. So I was not the only one. The repair by a technician will likely exceed the cost of it's current value (after 2.5 years). There are various responses about Philips having extended the warranty on goodwill for this type of breakdown, but also some repair jobs requesting up to 600 Euros.
After one year of usage, my Dell Inspiron N7010 laptop started to make more and more noise due to the ventilator blowing more often and faster. At worst, it would switch off completely and only restart after quite a while. I downloaded the hardware monitor shareware and got confirmed what I feared, the processor and graphic chip got quite hot quite fast. Introduction
In this article, I describe how I mounted my satellite dish at my home. There is no cable-TV in the area so the only reception is via air or my ADSL. The latter is OK, but as I am just a little too far from the ADSL distribution the reception is limited to low quality. I never had experience with satellite reception, so I started looking around. The Côte d'Azur is well withing good satellite reception range and there are a couple of satellites to chose from. Satellite have also their program grid distributed, so most of the receivers have a guide where you can see what's going on on all channels. The guide has also some more detail description of the program.
The last Eichhof is a legendary DOS game from the early nineties, it even made an entry in Wikipedia and Youtube. The game lets you fight against the large breweries that were buying all small breweries in their avidity to become bigger and bigger. It is freeware, made quite simple, but is a lot of fun.
We are about to publish our first Android application. It simply shows the 3 day weather plot we have on our homepage. It shows the temperature, precipitation in percentage (everything above 60% is a guaranteed rain) and the cloud coverage in percentage (if cloud coverage is below 40% it gets quite sunny). This all in a hourly grid so that you can predict quite accurately when things change and can plan accordingly.
